We have a waiting list and anyone from the age of 9 to 18 can apply to be a member. There are no auditions to join the club and it’s open to everyone. Please read through the information below before you complete the Waiting List Form.
Rehearsals & Shows
We perform twice a year at Daneside Theatre, Congleton; one show in May and one show in November. Rehearsals take place on Sunday afternoons and Wednesday evenings. Venue, dates and times will be communicated to you by email. Rehearsal times can be anything from 12pm to 5pm on Sundays and 7pm to 9pm on Wednesdays. It is extremely important that your child attends as many of the rehearsals as possible.
A week prior to the show, we move into Daneside Theatre, your child must commit and attend every rehearsal during this time, this can be most weekday evenings and weekend afternoons.
We may also require you to provide some costume items, for example, jazz shoes, socks, shirt, trousers, skirt etc.
Parental Help and Assistance
When your child becomes a member of CAYT we expect you to volunteer some of your time and help the committee to run our children’s amateur youth theatre, parental help is extremely important. CAYT has a small committee of approximately 12 members. Over the last few years, the committee has seen a rise in parental help which is fantastic news, long may it continue, CAYT could not function without your help.
Parental help is expected on our show weeks and at least once a term on a Sunday rehearsal, as law requires adult supervision. On show days/nights, you will be required to volunteer to help with at least two show days/nights. For rehearsals we have a Parent Rota, you will be required to help committee members and keep a general watch over the members, if we don’t receive parental help, CAYT could not operate.
We require volunteers to become Chaperones (this can be explained to you), in the dressing rooms for the week of the show. It would involve having a DBS check, again if we don’t have the offers of help, we would legally not be allowed to put on the shows.
We also require volunteers that hold a current First Aid Certificate when the shows are on.
Parent Rota
We have a Parents Rehearsal Rota for Sunday and Wednesday rehearsals. We allocate all parents a Sunday and/or a Wednesday to help. The Parents Rota comes into operation once the auditions have been held. With regard to our Parents Showtime Rota, we will contact every parent about six weeks prior to the show to ask for help.
